Security Dogs Handling

security dog in a fluorescent vestAn alternative to employing a number of security officers to protect your property would be to use a dog handler and Security Dog instead.

A Dog Handler and their security dog can replace as many as seven security officers and therefore result in being a cheaper and more affordable security measure.

Security Dogs Role

Security dogs are trained from a very early age to become Guard Dogs. Both guard dogs and watch dogs bark to alert their owners of an intruder's presence.

Barking is also an attempt at scaring away the intruder and stop them steeling or committing acts of vandalism in the area that they are guarding. Security dogs are able seek out intruders using their highly tuned senses (scent, sight and sound) and locate them (if hidden).

If a security dog comes across an intruder they are trained to use a certain level of aggression in order to detain an intruder and increase the chances of them being caught and being brought to justice.

A security dog also acts as protection for the dog handler in the event of any dangerous situations that occur when approaching aggressive intruders.

Security Dog Breeds

Female dogs tend to make better personal guardians than males, due to their natural instinct to protect their young. However, males are better for guarding property because they are more territorial than females.

We would use a dog handler and security dog for:

  • Large open areas such as golf courses, schools, recreation areas, parks.
  • Patrolling areas with a restricted line-of-site such as large construction projects, warehouses, transport yards.
  • Instances where it’s too dangerous for security guards alone gang-related problems, underground parking, shopping centres, high crime areas.
  • Finding and locating things such as drug and explosives

Dog handlers and security dog's remains to be one of the best forms of security that money can buy. Between 1,500 and 2,000 working dogs are estimated to be working within the Security Industry. That represents a figure almost equal to that of the UK Police Force.
