Doormen

A doorman at workDoormen are the Visible Security Measures that you can see standing outside most pubs and clubs on a night out.

The proper application of doormen (Bouncers) in a night club or pub is essential for keeping order and to help smoothly run and safe environment.

Inadequate security procedures can result in poor safety and contribute to a pub or clubs eventual closure.

Door Policy

A doorman or Door Host is the first person that a customer sees on the way into a pub or club. Doormen help endorse a clubs style and attitude by regulating what kind of customers they allow in.

These regulations may include such things as a Dress Code or how drunk a customer is. Usually doormen will be well dressed to give customers the feeling they are entering a classy establishment.

Doorman's Role

When entering a pub or club, Doormen are responsible for Access Control. They will observe all who enter checking for things such as under age drinkers, drug users, persistent trouble makers and those who have obviously had too much to drink.

Doormen are also hired to make sure that things go well inside a pub or club too. They must be alert at all times and be ready to eject anyone who wishes to make a scene or cause trouble.

Being a doorman can be a dangerous profession at times, so doormen will often be of a large size or have some sort of Martial Arts Training. This allows doormen to be able to handle and protect themselves in light of any situations or altercations that may occur.

Depending on the pub or club, a doorman can be used to collect cover charges, tickets, or even direct customers to tables.

A good doorman is somebody who is approachable, friendly and can talk to people without appearing threatening or intimidating. They will use eye contact and body language to let troublesome customers know that their conduct is reaching the threshold for unacceptable behaviour.

Protecting your Customers

two uniformed doormen at workDoormen have the right to refuse customers entry to a pub or club if they do not conform to the regulations set by the club or if they think you will be trouble. If a customers behaviour is deemed unacceptable whilst inside the pub or club they have the right to ask you to leave.

The doormen are not allowed to use violence to implement their authority, so instead work in numbers to physically restrain troublesome customers and then eject them from the pub or club and stop them from coming back in.
