Security Equipment

image of a man in handcuffsThere are many forms of Security Equipment available for security guards, as well as other types of security, that aid them in the ability to stop criminals quickly, effectively and safely, including Protective Clothing and Defensive Weapons.

Why do we need Security Guard Equipment?

The need for security is constantly increasing throughout the world as the population rises and criminal activity is also on the grow.

This means that the dangers faced by Security Guards are becoming more prominent, which is why making sure they are as safe as possible is very important.

Below are some of the most popular and effective forms of Safety Equipment that security guards may use.

Defensive Security Equipment

The Bullet Proof Vest is one of the most important pieces of equipment for both security guards and police support teams where the likelihood of gun-fire is greatest, such as in the Transportation of Money, or protection of higher members of the community.

During such cases the people that are attempting to commit the crime are very likely to be armed and the only proper protection against a bullet is the bullet-proof vest.

Since the silk variety bullet-proof vests have undergone some dramatic changes to improve performance, as well as keep up with the newer more powerful weaponry as it became available.

Because of the new fabrics used, and the method by which they are created the cost has also risen dramatically. The cheapest vest would cost somewhere in the region of £200 and at the top of the range you would expect to pay £600 - £700.

Protective Security Equipment

There are a few items of Protective Security Equipment that can be carried by security guards. In the event of an attack security guards may use Protective Security Equipment to protect themselves from harm.

A few of items of Protective Security Equipment include the following:

  • Stun Guns - These are generally one of the most extreme forms of Protective Security Equipment that can be carried by a security guard as they give a potential attacker a non-lethal electric shock that is powerful enough to render the assailant immobile, allowing the security guard to detain them with ease.
  • Batons - Most security guards will carry a baton and are used for defence purposes in the event of an attack by an intruder or thief. They must be trained in how to use them without causing too much harm as they can be lethal if used in the wrong way.
  • Defense Sprays - The defensive sprays now come in many different forms and are probably the most well-known form of Protective Security Equipment against an attacker. Even the general public can carry pepper sprays around in case they are attacked in the street. The more upmarket sprays also have the ability to 'tag' an assailant with a dye that will remain on their body for up to 7 days making a positive I.D after an arrest much easier to obtain.
